Now I’m not talking about filling potholes, painting and putting signs.
I’m talking about the oil pan killing rock in the road that you swerve around. Do you feel compelled to turn around and move it out of the road to save your fellow motorists from premature Camry death?
I turned around this morning to do just that. I’ll move limbs, logs and other dangerous things off the road and I’ll clean up trash on the road my house is on because it’ll bother me seeing it everyday.

a large limb came down infront of my house during one particularly nasty storm b locking both directions of travel. I went out in the pouring rain and wind to move it. The people in the cars just sat there and watched me struggle. this thing was huge, YUGE!!! I was about half way done and was soaked and aggravated that no1 would help I almost just said fuck it. Just as I finished getting it out of the road, a guy from like 10 cars back came to help but it was too late.

If I can remove an object safely I will do it. If there is too much traffic or if can’t stop in a safe spot I just keep going.

I have a tow strap my hitch and D ring in my powerstroke for hazards. I moved a tree out of the road last storm we had because it was blocking it and if you came from the other direction over the hill you would not have seen it.

I tried to close an open manhole cover (knocked out in flooding) so people wouldn’t drive into it. Had an arm injury and couldn’t do it one handed though. Waved some people away and then reported it to some firefighters who were in the area. They were more concerned that they had killed their truck driving on a flooded street though.

I’ve done that. Just this past weekend I was on a group motorcycle ride. A car in front of us stopped for a detached fender liner in the road. After a great deal of moto engine revving by the group they finally went around it. The leader of our pack kicked the fender liner toward the side of the road as he slowly passed. The rest of us followed suit, and by the time we were past it was off the road without any of us having to get off our bikes.

At that point I’d just put the damn limb back in the road. People suck.

Honestly, I’ve never even considered stoping to take an object out of the road, unless it’s an animal. I’ve stopped quite a few times for ducklings or turtles or other things that are slow to cross the road.
Haven’t really come across road debris often, now that I think about it.

Yeah, those bastards are nasty. If I see a snapper I’ll try to kind of nudge it across the road with a big stick or something. No way am I getting any of my digits near one of those.

One time, there was a trash can directly in the center of the lane. There was no traffic, so I slowed to a crawl and nudged it to the side with my bumper (I’m lazy).

I do if conditions are safe. I stop for animals when I can as well. Stopped for a kitten on a 4 lane highway once. It was in the middle of the far right lane looking terrified. Pulled over, got out, and approached. It went from paralyzed with fear to demon cat with cheetah speed. Big hiss and bolted at 60 mph into the woods.

Like if I see a tree down, I’ll just push it out of the way. It’s not hurting anything.

You see something dangerous in the road and swerve around and you’re just like, “Not my problem.”?
notsomethingstructural

09/27/2016 at 15:29 | 1 |
I might call it in if it’s dangerous enough. But otherwise, yeah, pretty much. It’s far more dangerous for you to get out of your car to move something than it is for whoever is in the car that would potentially hit it.

I’ll move something if it has the potential to damage someones property or hurt someone. Obviously not if it’s like in the middle of the highway...
If I don’t hit it, somebody else might. If people just did things on a “not my problem” basis, the world would be a really shitty place to live.

Depends on the object size/weight, road speed/traffic and how often I see the object. The exit for the highway I take in the afternoon is almost always backed up so occasionally I have a moment to pick up things that shouldn’t be there. There one was a whole week that I saw something in a paper bag but could never get it because that whole week traffic was smooth, I think street cleaners eventually got it.

I’d say that depends on the road. Main road, I’m with you. Back road that only sees one car every few minutes at its busiest, there’s no real danger in stopping.

Dusty, I gotta say of all the notifications I expected to get tonight, this one was pretty far down the list. I dig it though -I’m always too chicken to reply to old threads. Props.
Actually now I gotta ask, how did you come upon this exactly
